GALLOWAY RENDERING FINAL 1 (1).jpg

The property owner and his wife first met artist Shannon Leigh in 2021, when she was preparing to relocate her easel — and her life — from Tennessee to Arizona.

Shannon had answered an advertisement for an apartment rental in the immediate area, which happened to be owned by the couple.  This is where they all first met.   Although she ultimately selected a nearby studio space, that introduction sparked an enduring friendship. The couple began following her work.

When the owner completed the assemblage of parcels and began developing Galloway Crossing in Cave Creek, he sought a visual identity that would honor the history of the land while simultaneously reflecting on its thoughtful evolution. Central to the property stands its original Windmill — an iconic structure that the Town of Cave Creek & many, many residents MUCH PREFERRED to see THRIVE during the surrounding lands pending transformation. The Windmill was carefully relocated to its new location, where it will remain for another generation  ( or two ).  Rather than viewing it as a remnant of the past, the owner & artist recognized it as a defining emblem of place.  This successful "relocation" needed to be memorialized.

He invited Shannon to collaborate.

What emerged was a striking interpretation of the iconic Old West Windmill, reimagined. Set against the desert sky and foothills of the Continental Mountains, the composition blends heritage with refinement — honoring the history of the land while reflecting the relaxed, authenticity that defines Cave Creek.

Today, Shannon Leigh continues to create from her Arizona studio, painting the familiar icons of the American West with a contemporary edge and a signature aesthetic distinctly her own. She defines her work as “Pop Western.”
